Tanya Emery is the Director of Community and Economic Development for the City of Bangor. In this role, Tanya oversees the Economic Development, Community Development, Code Enforcement, and Planning divisions of the City. She was promoted to Director after 2 years as Business Development Specialist in Bangor, focused on business attraction, retention, and expansion, as well as marketing and communications. Prior to joining the Bangor team, Tanya was Deputy Director of Economic Development for the City of Brewer for five years, and spent five years before that working at Eastern Maine Development Corporation on regional economic development. Before returning to Maine, Tanya worked for InfoNXX (now KGB), the world’s largest independent provider of directory assistance and enhanced information services for the wireless industry. During her time there, she worked across the U.S., opened new operation centers, and launched new markets for major wireless providers.
A native of Hampden, Tanya left to attend Trinity College in Hartford, CT. While there she earned a Bachelor’s in Political Science with honors, and was named a President’s Fellow, being chosen by department faculty as the top senior major in Political Science. Her senior year she interned full-time at the Connecticut State Legislature with the chair of the Environment Committee as the state deregulated the wholesale energy markets.
Now back in her home state, Tanya serves the community as an elected member of the MSAD #22 School Board (Hampden, Newburgh, Winterport, and Frankfort), is on the board of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the Eastern Maine Medical Center Citizens Advisory Council and a Corporator for Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems. She was a founding member and past chair of Fusion:Bangor, and has served on the boards/steering committees for Realize!Maine, Penobscot Theatre, Bangor Region Partners for Health, Eastern Maine Community College Foundation, Maine Highlands Artist Guild, Tri-County Workforce Investment Board, and Penquis Leadership Institute.
